Muslim fundamentalists threw firebombs at Christian-owned shops in a provincial town to avenge an affair between a Muslim woman and a Christian man, Egyptian police said. A police officer in northern Mahmoudeya said “many people” were injured and 35 were arrested in the rampage by fundamentalists. The officer said the incident occurred after a Muslim woman reported her affair with a Christian man to police. Friends decided to avenge the woman, who was barred by Egyptian law from marrying the Christian man.
