Six Teams to Battle in Camarillo for U.S. Western Zone Pony Title

The U. S. Western Zone Pony baseball championships for 13- and 14-year-olds will begin today at Pleasant Valley Park in Camarillo.

Six teams will be competing for the chance to represent the Western Zone in the Pony World Series, which will be held later this month in Washington, Pa.

The event, which is being staged by the Camarillo Pony Baseball Assn., is a double-elimination tournament.

Competition will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a doubleheader. The first game features Richmond (10-2), the Northern regional champion from the Bay Area, against Camarillo (6-4). Rialto (10-1), the Southern regional champion, will face Santa Susana (7-1), the South Section champion from Simi Valley, in the second game.

In second-round play Thursday, Encino (11-2), the Coast Regional champion, will play the winner of the game between Camarillo and Richmond, and Cache Valley of Logan, Utah, will play the winner of the game between Santa Susana and Rialto.

The tournament will continue through the weekend with a 5:30 p.m. start on Friday and a 1:30 p.m. start on Saturday and Sunday. Play will conclude Monday with the championship game at 7 p.m.
