A Comment on Dornan’s Commentary

Share

As a student about to enter my final year of high school, I took great interest in Rep. Robert K. Dornan’s commentary, which failed to mention any of the negative aspects of allowing more immigrants to find refuge in Orange County. Gangs of different ethnic groups have increased in recent years, and in high school classrooms, some isolate into groups and converse in their native tongue. Because refugee students are classified as minorities, they receive preferential treatment when it comes to admissions at competitive colleges and universities.

One must also not forget the wide array of services that federal, state and county governments offer these immigrants. Welfare insurance and driver’s license tests in foreign languages are just a few of the programs that refugees enjoy because of the generous U.S. government.

Maybe Rep. Dornan and other members of Congress should concentrate their efforts on the domestic problems in America, rather than complicating them.
