Truvel Corp., a Chatsworth maker of electronic scanning machines, said it lost $293,000 in its fiscal second quarter ended July 1, compared to a $700,000 loss a year earlier.

Truvel, which began developing its machines two years ago, said the narrower deficit came on a 74% surge in sales, to $1.76 million from $1.01 million.

For the first half of its fiscal year, Truvel lost $1.74 million, compared to a $1.83-million loss a year earlier. Its six-month sales more than doubled, to $2.81 million from $1.31 million.
