The Los Angeles City Department of Public Works will hold its sixth roundup of household hazardous chemicals Saturday in Granada Hills.
Residents may discard pesticides, motor oil, paints, cleaners, aerosols and other common household chemicals, said Chuck Ellis, department spokesman. The roundup will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Coast Savings administrative building, 18000 Chatsworth St. The event is open to all Los Angeles residents, he said.
Waste from small businesses or industry will not be accepted, Ellis said.
The event is one of eight pilot roundups aimed at providing data for a permanent household hazardous waste disposal program in the city, he said. Previous roundups were in Reseda, West Hollywood, Van Nuys, South-Central Los Angeles and Harbor City, he said.
To date, more than 14,000 gallons of paint, 12,000 gallons of motor oil and more than 500 batteries have been recycled in the program, Ellis said.
