Ventura County Fair to Stage Motocross Event Friday Night

The 1989 Ventura County Fair Motocross championships will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the Ventura Raceway at the Fairgrounds.

Local amateur riders have competed in a series of four qualifying races leading to the championships. More than 150 riders, including a contingent of professionals headed by Kyle Lewis, are expected to compete.

Professional riders will be battling for a $7,200 purse that will be split among six racing categories.

A field of 20 motorcycle and quad riders, in both pro and amateur classes, will compete for the fair championships in 80cc, 125cc, 250cc and 500cc divisions.

Local amateurs who have already qualified include Bruce Hiroshima of Camarillo; Jason Wood of Ojai; Jay Theys of Frazier Park; David Bradshaw of Oxnard; and Jeff Villareal of Ventura.

The amateur 80cc, 125cc, and 250cc beginner classes are full, but spots remain open in all other classes, both pro and amateur.

Awards will be given to the top five finishers in each category and riders under the age of 18 must have a signed waiver.

Riders can apply for entry by contacting the Ventura Raceway before 5 p.m. Friday.
