Pasadena to Hold Hearing on Plan to Change Water Rates
The city Board of Directors will hold a public hearing at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall on a plan to alter water rates so that residents who use large amounts of water will pay substantially more per cubic foot than users of small amounts.
The proposal, which includes water rate increases for commercial and industrial customers, would raise revenue for the city water division by 6.3%. Residents who use 1,800 cubic feet of water a month would see little change in their water bills, which now amount to $12 a month. Residents who use 5,500 cubic feet of water and now pay $27.47 a month, would pay $45.68 in winter and $49.68 in summer, a 74% increase, under the proposed rates.
The city’s Utility Advisory Commission has recommended the new rates to raise revenue and encourage conservation.
