Comedian Steve Martin will be the first recipient of an honorary doctoral degree given by Cal State Long Beach, the school has announced. The star of the movies “Parenthood,” “All of Me” and “Roxanne,” Martin will collect his Doctor of Human Letters degree on Friday when the school celebrates its 40th anniversary. Martin, a former philosophy student at the school, was singled out for “his sincere and profound interest in and contributions to the university, the world of entertainment and the expansion and elevation of the human spirit.”
