Burlington Air Express Inc., an international cargo-express company, reported an operating profit of $6.1 million for the second quarter, nearly three times the $2.1 million posted for the comparable quarter last year. Revenue rose 10%, to $211 million from $191.4 million.
“Our strong second-quarter earnings reflect Burlington’s service enhancement program, gains in our domestic and international market share and contributions from our air-cargo charter activities,” said David L. Marshall, Burlington’s chairman and chief executive.
The Irvine-based company, a subsidiary of the Pittston Co., reported that more than half of its revenue for the quarter came from international transactions.
