NATION : Bush May Visit Alaska to See How Exxon Is Progressing on Clean-Up
President Bush may go to Alaska next month to see efforts to clean up the Exxon oil spill, a White House official said today.
The official said White House advance teams are exploring the possibility of making the trip in the middle of September, after stops in South Dakota and Montana to attend those states’ centennial celebrations.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stressed that plans are still tentative but that they now call for Bush going to Alaska after a stop in Washington state.
The President, on a three-week vacation at his summer home in Kennebunkport, is scheduled to return to the capital on Sept. 5.
