Paris Graffiti

Share

A graffiti-free Paris? Were it only true. R.L Clark (letters to the editor, Aug. 15) must have had his rose-colored glasses on during his stay. My husband and I return every year to the City of Light and just remarked on the extent to which the problem has worsened.

As for art work in the metro stations, yes, the Louvre station has beautifully displayed reproductions, but take a ride to Barbes, for instance, and art work is the last thing one will see.

There is no museum called “Jean de Pomme”; I’m sure the reference was to the “Jeu de Paume” which formerly housed the Impressionist works before their transfer to the new Musee d’Orsay. And the art work, though not always enclosed or encased, cannot be touched. Museum employees are always on duty to stop would-be touchers in their tracks.

Unfortunately, graffiti appears to be an inescapable big-city reality.
