ISLAND, S.C

Two pro-choice candidates trounced an anti-abortion candidate in a Republican primary Tuesday to fill a vacant state Assembly seat, putting them in a runoff next month.

The primary was South Carolina’s first election since the U.S. Supreme Court last month gave states more latitude to restrict abortion.

According to unofficial results, former legislative aide Holly Cork led with 2,654 votes to 2,226 for developer David Ames and 1,805 for Robert Graves, a businessman who opposes abortion, said Beaufort County Republican Party Chairman Frank Gibson.
