Juan Antonio Samaranch, the president of the International Olympic Committee, said during a news conference in Duisburg, West Germany, that there was little chance that his native city of Barcelona could stage equestrian events at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games.

The equestrian events have been threatened by the spread of the African equine plague, which has been killing horses in Spain.

Samaranch said the IOC will make its decision in Tokyo in October, 1990.
