Share

City Atty. Joseph Pannone has submitted his resignation to join a private law firm that is the counsel to the redevelopment agencies for Culver City and several other cities.

Pannone, 35, joined the city attorney’s office about 10 years ago, while a student at Loyola Law School. He worked his way up to the top post in 1986.

“I’ve reached a point where I just need to move on to something else,” Pannone said Wednesday. He will join Kane, Balmer & Berkman, a 17-lawyer firm in downtown Los Angeles that is the redevelopment counsel for Culver City and more than 20 other redevelopment agencies. At the firm, he may work on Culver City issues, Pannone said.

Mayor Jozelle Smith said that the resignation was a surprise but that she understood Pannone’s desire to “expand his base of experience.”

Pannone’s resignation is effective Nov. 17.
