Love, not politics, seems to be a reason to defect these days. Soviet dancer Svetlana Kirenko, 32, remained behind this week when the rest of her dance troupe performing at an international folk dance festival in Utah flew back to the Soviet Union. Police say she developed a relationship with an Idaho man. An Immigration and Naturalization Service official in Salt Lake City said Kirenko had applied Wednesday for political asylum and had been moved to a secure location outside Utah. Last week, two dancers from China--Chen Li, 24, and Zhe Qian, 27--unexpectedly left their host home in Springvale and later called from out of state to say they were not returning to China. Police believe one of the dancers was married to a Chinese national who is a student in the United States.
