Van de Kamp Asks for Bond Reduction: California Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp told a federal judge in Los Angeles that the state could post no more than a $10,000 bond in exchange for a chance to continue its Supreme Court appeal against American Stores’ planned merger of Lucky and Alpha Beta. Van de Kamp noted that Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has said there is “a fair prospect” that he could win an appeal based on the merits of his case. American Stores, meanwhile, has asked that bond be set at $8 million or $15 million.
