5 Teens Injured When Car Swerves, Hits Tree
A speeding compact car carrying five teen-agers swerved out of control and into a tree in Huntington Beach on Friday, sending three of the passengers flying from the car and onto the pavement.
The most seriously injured, a 14-year-old girl from Garden Grove, was flown to United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was later listed in stable condition. The others--three girls ages 17, 16 and 12 from Westminster, Garden Grove and Whittier, and a 14-year-old boy from Whittier--were taken to various hospitals in the area.
Huntington Beach police said that shortly before noon, the 1978 Honda Civic was heading south on Magnolia Street near Yorktown Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver, whom police did not identify, tried to change lanes and then lost control of the car.
Police withheld the victims’ names.
