LOVE BYTES

I found the article “Love Bytes,” by Margo Kaufman (July 23), to be not only disappointing but quite offensive. As a computer graphic artist who, while at the office, works full time on my Mac IIX, and, while at home, continues working on my MAC SE, I maintain that women can as passionate about computers as men. And I know other women like me. Why is such a gender distinction important? Perhaps it is articles such as this that discourage women from computers because they feel as if it shouldn’t be their forte. And though the writer throws in a little role reversal at the end, it really does not compensate for such quotes as, “To me, everyone who isn’t a stud is like a housewife--and that includes men and women.” You would never consider quoting someone who had said, “To me, everyone who isn’t a stud is like a Chicano.”
