Tension remained high in the mostly white Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, N.Y., where a black youth was shot to death in a confrontation with a mob of white teen-agers last week. Black protesters marching through the streets for a second day were met with angry taunts and racial slurs. Meanwhile, a local man was arrested and charged with threatening a witness to the fatal attack on 16-year-old Yusef Hawkins and his friends, and the five white youths charged in the incident were released on bail. Prosecutors believe one of them, Keith Mondelo, 18, organized the white gang and led the assault to get revenge because a girlfriend had spurned him to date blacks and Latinos.
