UC Irvine to Host Symposium on Electronic Music

UC Irvine will host an all-day Electronic Music Symposium on Sept. 23.

Eight workshops, to be held from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Medical Sciences I, will cover topics such as keyboard scoring for theater, dance and video; sequencing and live performance; drum and percussion synthesis; sequencing and arranging for studio, and integrating transitional instruments with synthesis.

Craig Anderton, editor-in-chief of “Electronic Musician” magazine, will lecture on “Innovation in the World of Synthesis” at 3:30 p.m.

The symposium will end with a concert at 8 p.m. by the ROVA Saxophone Quartet. Members of the quartet include John Raskins, Larry Ochs, Andrew Voight and Bruce Ackley. Their program is co-sponsored by the Yamaha Corp. and the Newport Harbor Art Museum, which was originally announced as the site of the concert.
