Two Supercomputer Firms to Merge: In a widely expected move, graphics supercomputer makers Ardent Computer Corp. and Stellar Computer Inc. said they will merge, linking two competitors that have had a bumpy start in an emerging segment of the computer industry. The privately owned companies said they plan to complete their merger by the middle of October and will name the new entity Stardent Inc. Both companies manufacture powerful graphics-intensive computers primarily used by scientists and industrial designers. The value of the merger was not reported.
