Prop. 103 and Roxani Gillespie

Share

It is becoming extremely clear that Insurance Commissioner Gillespie has no intention of honoring the spirit or the specifics of Prop. 103. The central idea behind the proposition was to independently assess the profits and expenditures of the insurance companies and not to rely on their highly secretive figures in determining whether they are overcharging customers.

Gillespie’s recent actions show her complete unwillingness to perform as the law requires. It is easy to believe, as (Equalization Board member) Conway Collis remarked, that “. . . now the industry is running the department.”

We must bring pressure in every way possible to keep the proposition we voted into law only a year ago from being distorted out of all meaning by insurance industry influence.
