Egghead Discount Software: The Issaquah, Wash.-based software merchant reported a first-quarter loss of $5.2 million, compared to a loss of $161,000 a year ago. Revenue increased 49% to $122 million. Earnings for the latest quarter, before a restatement reflecting a change in accounting methods enacted at the end of fiscal 1989, were $456,000. The firm attributed the latest loss to a 5.3% decrease in its gross margin rate to 15.9%.
