The State : School Pact Talks Go On

Share

School district officials and teachers in San Jose and San Francisco negotiated throughout the weekend in an effort to work out new contracts and, in the case of San Jose, avert a teacher strike threatened for Tuesday. The San Jose district sent letters advising parents of its 29,000 students to make child-care plans “just in case a regular instructional program is not possible.” The San Jose district has offered a 6% raise over one year but teachers want a 10% increase. The San Francisco district and union leaders also are trying to work out a new agreement before school starts, but no strike in threatened.
