London Bookstore Blast Linked to Rushdie Novel

LONDON —
A bomb exploded Sunday night near a bookstore, injuring three pedestrians, and police said a telephone caller linked the blast to the campaign against Salman Rushdie’s novel “The Satanic Verses.”
Police said they received an anonymous telephone warning about the bomb shortly before it exploded in London’s West End and that the caller mentioned Rushdie’s book, which has angered Muslim fundamentalists around the world, who call it blasphemous.
