Left-wing Salvadoran guerrillas said they have accepted a government proposal to begin peace talks by mid-September and held out the possibility of announcing a unilateral cease-fire. Rebel commander Ana Guadalupe Martinez told a press conference in Mexico City that the Farabundo Marti Liberation Front has agreed that the talks should take place between Sept. 10 and 14.
