Nation : AFL-CIO Vice President Shot, Killed
AFL-CIO Vice President Bernard J. Firestone was shot to death this morning in his downtown office, union and police officials said.
A suspect described by police as an “elderly man” was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Initial reports from the scene said the suspect may have been a disgruntled retiree.
Witnesses told police that the man entered the union’s offices in downtown Detroit shortly after 9 a.m. and argued with a receptionist. Firestone, 54, intervened and asked the man to come into his private office.
