Share

The City Council will hold a study session regarding chloroflurocarbons in packaging on Oct. 14.

The council, which will direct the city manager to invite representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Village Laguna, Laguna Greenbelt and the Laguna Canyon Conservancy, is following an example set by the city of Irvine, which adopted an ordinance regulating the manufacture, distribution, sale and recycling of products containing CFCs.

Councilman Neil G. Fitzpatrick has recommended regulating other chemicals as well, including Freon, acetone, styrene and methylene chloride, among others.

CFCs are suspected of leading to the deterioration of the earth’s atmosphere, and cities throughout the country are considering imposing restrictions on specific packaging materials that contain CFCs or are made of plastic or Styrofoam.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m.
