Cypriot Foundation Helps Orphaned and Homeless Children in Lebanon
A group of Cypriots has established a foundation to help Lebanese children orphaned or made homeless by the civil war in their country.
The Children of Lebanon Foundation has no political, racial or religious leanings and will provide relief for Christian and Muslim Lebanese children, founding member Kyriacos Pattichis said at a news conference last week.
Cyprus, about 100 miles off the coast of Lebanon, is the main transit point for Lebanese fleeing the 14-year-old civil war.
Cypriot authorities estimate that the Lebanese community in Cyprus has grown from 7,000 to 20,000 in the last couple of months.
