College Roundup : Biedler Sparks Titans in Soccer

Junior Rick Biedler scored with about 12 minutes remaining in overtime, lifting Cal State Fullerton over Oregon State, 2-1, in men’s soccer on Sunday.

Oregon State took an early lead when Bert Snyder scored 12 minutes into the game, which was played on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.

The victory raised the Titans’ record to 3-1; Oregon State is 3-2.

In other men’s soccer action:

UCLA 7, UC Irvine 0--Mater Dei graduate Sam George opened the scoring for the No. 5-ranked Bruins on Irvine’s Crawford Field.

UCLA (4-0) never was challenged by the Anteaters (1-3), needing only one save for the shutout.

Junior Dana Kerr, who scored the Bruins’ last three goals, was the game’s high scorer.

In women’s soccer:

Santa Clara 4, UC Irvine 0--The Broncos outshot the Anteaters, 26-0, as host Santa Clara won its third consecutive nonconference game. Irvine’s record dropped to 0-3-1; Santa Clara improved to 3-1.
