WORLD : Kohl to Have Prostate Operation

BREMEN, West Germany — West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl will have an operation on his prostate gland Thursday and will be hospitalized about nine days, aides in his Christian Democratic Party said today.
The operation is intended to relieve a benign swelling of the gland, which has troubled Kohl since he developed cystitis two weeks ago. He is likely to spend another week recuperating, the aides said, and is expected to resume his full work schedule at the beginning of October.
