The bullet-riddled body of a man believed to have been executed by drug smugglers was found in Culiacan, the capital of northwestern Sinaloa state, the independent news agency Excelsior reported Wednesday.

Jose Carlos de Saracho, the state coordinator for public security, identified the victim as Natividad Cecea Hernandez, 40, without any known profession, the agency said.

Hernandez was kidnaped over the weekend. His body was found on a remote country road Tuesday near the site where another victim, also shot to death, was found Monday,

De Saracho was quoted as saying that seven such killings have occurred in the last 10 days, “and they all appear to be acts of vengeance by groups of drug traffickers.”

For many years, Sinaloa has been a marijuana growing region and also a center for smuggling drugs from South America into the United States.
