Mother Teresa’s condition worsened today as she suffered chest pains and developed a high fever a week after being stricken by a heart attack, her doctors said.

Dr. A. K. Ashim, chief cardiologist at Woodlands Nursing Home, said the 79-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner “has had sort of a (second) heart attack. Her condition is serious.”

He said doctors were constantly monitoring her heartbeat but refused to say what steps had been taken. Other doctors said external heart massage had been required. “Mother Teresa is tired and resting,” Ashim said. He called the overnight pains “a setback.”
