A research group in San Francisco is opposing the city’s proposed domestic partners law, which would give unwed municipal employees the same hospital visitation rights and bereavement leave as married couples. The San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Assn.--the first non-religious organization to oppose the measure on the November ballot--warned that the proposed law could lead to larger efforts to broaden health benefits and regulate private business practices.
