Welsh soccer fans rampaged through a seaside suburb early Friday, fighting Greek fans and damaging three taverns before police arrested 14 of them, authorities said.

Prosecutor George Koliokostas charged the 14 fans of the Swansea City soccer club with causing damage to property and said they would remain in custody until their trial today before a three-member magistrates’ court.

The Welsh club lost, 3-2, to Panathinaikos of Athens in a European soccer championship match Wednesday.

The Welsh fans were arrested after going on a drunken rampage that authorities said caused $13,000 in damage to three taverns at the seaside suburb of Glyphada, 15 miles from Athens.

They also damaged six parked cars and were involved in fights with Greek soccer fans before a squad of riot police arrested them.
