Aztec Women Debut With 6-0 Victory

San Diego State’s women’s soccer team, the Aztecs’ newest intercollegiate program, won its first game, 6-0, over Whittier in Aztec Bowl. Holly Hamm had a goal in each half. The Aztecs had 48 shots-on-goal; Whittier had none.

VOLLYBALL

Point Loma defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (15-5, 15-4) in the semifinals and Menlo College (15-10, 10-15, 15-10) in the championship to win the Mills College Invitational tournament in Oakland.

Kill leader Liz Villaneuva (11), assist leader Roberta Silva (46) and leading server Tracy Daniels (17 of 18 with one ace) were named to the all-tournament team. PLNC improved to 6-0.

CROSS COUNTRY

U.S. International women finished sixth (176 points) at the Whittier Invitational. The Gulls Molly Jackson covered the 3.2 mile course in 19 minutes, 36.70 seconds, good for third in a field of 123 runners. Teammate Pam Kreuger was fifth (21:06.07).

Kenneth Jansson was USIU’s top finisher in the men’s four-mile race. He was second in 21:29.10. The Gulls placed 17th (425 points) in the team standings.MEN’S SOCCER

Westminster College of Salt Lake City defeated Point Loma Nazarene College, 6-1, and went on to win the Northwest Nazarene tournament in Nampa, Ida. PLNC finished third.

Christian Heritage won its first game in the program’s history, defeating Latin America Bible Institute, 9-0, in a nonconference game at Christian Heritage.

Don Ellsworth and Keo Leuangpaseuth had two goals apiece for Christian Heritage (1-1). Teammate Joe Harrison had a goal and two assists. LABI is 0-1.
