More than 103 people were hospitalized and thousands were evacuated from their homes when poisonous chlorine gas leaked from a sulfur factory in Amman, Jordan’s civil defense department reported. Gen. Khaled Tarawneh, the department director, said the leak was caused by “bad maintenance” on three gas valves at the plant on Zarqa Highway in the northeastern area of the capital. He said the leak has been brought under control. Among those hospitalized were 28 civil defense personnel.
