Countywide : Board Hikes Spending for Waste Management

Share

The county’s Waste Management Program was granted a $1.4-million expansion by the Board of Supervisors Tuesday in response to growth in the county and the need to comply with increased regulation.

The program, “a relatively small operation” just seven years ago, is now larger than 20 other county agencies or departments and has an annual budget of $120 million, according to a staff report.

“It definitely reflects the growth of the county with all of the benefits and the problems that it causes,” said Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder.

The expansion, approved unanimously by the supervisors, will add 33 new positions to the program at an annual cost of $1,418,397. The expansion will be funded completely by fees charged at the landfills.
