$14-Million Downtown Redevelopment Approved by Anaheim’s City Council

A $14-million housing development is on its way to downtown Anaheim, a project that city officials hope will signal a new beginning for an area that is now mostly vacant lots.

“This is a milestone for downtown,” Mayor Fred Hunter said.

The City Council voted 4 to 0 Tuesday night to approve the redevelopment project, in which Lincoln Property Development Co. will build 388 houses, townhouses and apartments in an area bordered roughly by Atchison, Center, Olive and Cypress streets.

Lincoln is buying the property from the city for $7.6 million and will pay about $6.4 million to build the project. The city is subsidizing the 21-acre development by pouring in about $13 million in public improvements and land costs and to relocate people and businesses.
