Plea for Adult Center
I had to pause for serious thought after reading the article on the Adult Day Health Care Center facing eviction by the Episcopal Church where it is now located (Glendale, Sept. 14).
Somehow I cannot imagine why a church would close its eyes to such a need in its very midst. Whatever stance one takes as a Christian, the fact that social justice is an integral part of the teachings of the Bible cannot be ignored.
I beg the diocese to have mercy on the elderly poor of the Echo Park area and include in its new center a place for these folk, perhaps even to supply financial support.
“He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done.” (Proverbs 19:17).
