Pico Rivera : City Reaches Truce, Taps Into Water District’s Well

Officials for Pico Rivera and the Pico Water District have signed an agreement to interconnect their water systems so residents living in the northern part of the city will receive better service.

The City Council voted Monday to pay the water district, an independent company operating in the heart of Pico Rivera, about $50,000 to hook into one of the district’s wells located near Beverly Boulevard and Durfee Avenue.

For years, residents living in the northern part of Pico Rivera have been plagued with inadequate water pressure partially because most of the city’s wells are in the southern part of town, city officials said.

Mayor John Chavez said that connecting with the water district’s well will solve some of the city’s problems. Meanwhile, he said city and district officials are continuing to look for other ways to combine services.

Recently the Pico Water District and the city reached a truce after years of bickering. After twice threatening to take steps to take over the district, the city decided several months ago to end the old feud and pay the district for help in improving the city’s water service.
