Brea : S. Walnut Apartments Are Ordered Reviewed

After hearing complaints from residents worried about more traffic and congestion, the City Council has told city staff members to review plans for a new apartment complex on South Walnut Avenue.
The review was ordered after 15 residents urged the City Council on Tuesday night to reconsider its decision to allow the nine-unit complex to be built in the 500 block of South Walnut Avenue in southern Brea.
Plans to build the complex, approved by the city Planning Commission in the spring, have met strong resistance from neighbors who say the area is congested enough with cars and people.
“It scares the absolute pants off of us,” said neighbor Dan King, 40. “We don’t want to just delay the development but change its course.”
Sandra Rodiger, 50, a homeowner on South Walnut, accused the City Council of “not being responsive to our needs.”
City Manager Frank Benest said that the city staff would present a revised proposal for the apartment complex at the Nov. 7 council meeting and that representatives of the city would meet with concerned residents to discuss the issue.
