Governor Will Lead a Trade Mission to Europe

Gov. George Deukmejian will lead a delegation of California high-tech and agricultural exporters to Italy and Germany next month and open a new state trade office in Frankfurt, the governor’s office confirmed Thursday.

The trade office, which will be staffed by two people, will be the fourth such enterprise established by Deukmejian in an effort to attract greater commerce between California and foreign nations. A fifth office is scheduled for Hong Kong next year.

Deukmejian will leave Oct. 7 for Italy where he plans four days of meetings with government officials, business organizations and business writers in Rome and Milan, said James W. Robinson, the governor’s public affairs director.

In Germany, accompanied by representatives of the California Chamber of Commerce, growers and representatives of medium and small-size high-tech export companies, Deukmejian will attend major trade shows in Munich and Cologne. He will preside at the opening of the state trade and investment office in Frankfurt on Oct. 17.
