GM Mum on Reports of Jaguar Offer: A spokesman for General Motors Corp. declined comment on reports that the auto maker had made Jaguar an offer for a partnership after the British company termed as unwelcome a Ford Motor Co. bid to acquire a 15% stake. Reports from London said GM was offering a deal under which it would provide Jaguar with unlimited access to its technical and engineering capabilities but preserve the luxury car maker as an independent company. GM, the largest U.S. auto maker, declined to comment on the report from its headquarters in Detroit. A spokesman for Jaguar’s U.S. operations said earlier that the car maker’s board in London had determined that Ford’s bid was unwelcome.
