Government Was ‘Fed Up’ With Rockwell: Rockwell International Corp., which said it was withdrawing as operator of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant, actually was ousted because the government was “fed up,” a federal official said. Department of Energy deputy secretary W. Henson Moore said Rockwell officials did not know of the DOE’s intention to sever ties with the company until Friday morning, The Denver Post reported. Official reports had said Rockwell’s departure from the DOE plant was by mutual decision and gave no reason for the move. The federal government is investigating possible environmental crimes at Rocky Flats, 15 miles northwest of Denver, which makes plutonium triggers for thermonuclear bombs.
