SOUTHLAND : No New Evidence Set for ‘Stalker’
Lawyers for convicted “Night Stalker” serial killer Richard Ramirez announced today that they will present no evidence or testimony to persuade jurors to spare the 29-year-old drifter’s life.
In a surprise move, the lawyers said they will be ready to present their final arguments later today in the sentencing phase of the trial. They were expected to plead for Ramirez’s life based on testimony already heard during the main phase of the yearlong trial.
Ramirez was convicted last week in 13 gruesome murders and 30 related felonies, mostly satanic sex crimes stemming from a series of random, residential break-ins during the summer of 1985.
Jurors attached a legal finding of special circumstances to a number of the murders, which makes Ramirez eligible for the death penalty under California law.
