Norwalk : Forum Planned for School, College Candidates

A forum will be held tonight for candidates running for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education and Cerritos Community College District Board of Trustees.

The event, sponsored by the League of United Latin American Citizens, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Norwalk-La Mirada district’s board room, 12820 S. Pioneer Blvd., Norwalk. Candidates will give five-minute presentations and answer questions from the audience.

There are six candidates for the Norwalk-La Mirada school board, including incumbents Jesse M. Luera, Kenneth Welch and William A. White. The challengers are Lupe Flores McClintock, Armando Moreno Jr. and Ralph Nicassio. Incumbent Gary V. Jones is not running for reelection.

Candidates for the Cerritos College board include incumbents Joseph Stits, Mark Durant and Ada Steenhoek. They are being challenged by John Paul Drayer, Virginia Epple Lane, Rick Sanchez, William Mohler and Richard John Vandenberg Jr.

Cerritos College Trustee John Moore is also running for reelection. Moore, who was appointed to the board in August, 1988, to fill two years remaining in the four-year term of a board member who resigned, is being challenged by Ralph Kephart. The full terms ends in November, 1991.
