Carol Burnett is suing an investment firm this week because it sent a $1.1-million check to a wrong address, causing her to lose $45,833 in interest. The Superior Court suit alleges Burnett purchased an 11% ownership in Mariners Bay Co., which mishandled a check owed to her after the partnership was refinanced by Executive Business Management. The suit alleges that EBM sent the check to an old address--although it had the current address--and concealed the fact from Burnett for five months. Burnett’s suit seeks $45,833, which she contends is five months’ interest on the $1.1 million, plus unspecified punitive damages, for alleged fraud, negligence and breach of fiduciary duty.
