A 20-year-old British soldier was charged with leaking confidential photographs, names and addresses of IRA suspects to Protestant paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland. Shaun Cunliffe, a member of the Air Defense Regiment of the Royal Artillery, was brought to Belfast from West Germany, where he has been serving, to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court. Charged under the Official Secrets Act, Cunliffe is alleged to have leaked the information on alleged members of the outlawed Irish Republican Army to unidentified persons early in September. He was freed on bail after a four-minute hearing.
