Just Following the Leader
Re: “Ollie’s New War,” Sept. 17, by Paul Dean. The picture of Col. Oliver North turned my stomach.
To think that a paper that is supposedly liberal presents a man of such diabolic notoriety as a hero and benefactor of mankind is absolutely disgusting. He confessed to deeds, which, in a court of law during the Nuremberg trials, would have been sentenced to death or life imprisonment. His excuses for his atrocious actions were that he was following his leader’s orders. So, too, were the Gestapo and Storm Troopers under Hitler. North claimed, too, that he was a patriot, much as Hitler’s followers did.
North lied, cheated, defied Congress and the law of the land and carried out his own brand of rape, murder of thousands, pillaging and destroying a country through his hired thugs and mercenary soldiers.
He used hundreds of millions of dollars in private and American taxpayers’ money to accomplish his malicious ends, dealing with large dope dealers, illegal shippers of weapons, and unscrupulous merchants who were in on the action for the purpose of reaping huge fortunes. He dealt with our then enemy, Iran, who was holding our hostages.
We don’t need your paper to lionize this criminal.
